Ombre-Dyed Scarf

| | Comments (13)

After organizing my stash I realized I had 3 skeins of DB Cashmerino Superchunky in cream. I've been wanting another scarf so I thought I'd whip one up quickly.

Once done, I felt it needed a little more oomph, so I decided to try my hand at Kool Aid Dyeing it.

Since the DB has some microfiber in it I wasn't even sure if the dye would take. I mixed up a water bath and gave it a go. It was pretty easy and the kitchen smelled like Jello. Wanna see the step-by-step process? I took a few pics for you!

The dye took, but the variations just aren't strong enough, so I'm going to have to make another pass at it. My plan is to just dye the darkest third this go around and see what happens.

I love the smell of Kool Aid dyeing. It makes me crave fruit (which is a good thing.) I cannot wait to see piccies!

That looks like a very warm scarf. So, does red Kool-Aid = pink scarf? This Kool Aid dyeing seems to be all the rage - I'm interested in how it turns out!

Cool! I've heard about this process for a while now, but haven't seen the step-by-step. It looks easy enough for me to try! Thanks.

thats so cool. Ive never seen kool aid dye process, and its definately very cool looking. i always thought it would look kind of junky, like when in high school we all believed the kool aid dye looked so good in our hair. cant wait to see the last pass result!

I had no idea that you could just dye the scarf instead of the yarn. Is the Cashmerino still soft after the hot soak?

I love Kool Aid dyeing--so much fun! Your scarf is very pretty--can you show us a pic when it is all dry and dyed? I would love to see that!

Take care.

I have some off white Cotton Fleece off of Granny's sale table that I thought to dye. Have you tried any of that Wilton dye? Can't wait to see it dry. And how did you do that fabulous slide show??

ann said:

yes, how did you do that slide show??!! bravo!

One guess as to where you got the slideshow idea ;-)

Very nice work!

I've dyed with Kool-Aid before but never tried it with an item that's already been knit. Interesting. Did the dye soak into the yarn at the spots where the stitches lock together?
