Getting Close
I've finished the body of the raglan
and I'm almost done with one sleeve.
The body is fitting very well! The sleeve is a good length, but I'm still not convinced about the edging. I did 3 rows of garter and a picot bind off. The picots are a little bigger than I envisioned and I'm not sure if I like it yet.
I'm going to sleep on it and decide later.
BTW, see the big U-shaped curve in the full sweater shot? I steamed the top when I finished the short rows and it made quite a difference in the way the stitches look. Cotton really shows every little deviation but with a light steam they even out nicely. Once I'm done and have woven in all the ends I'm going to wash and dry the top. I'm hopeful the rowing out by the shortrows will wash out. I caused them by being overzealous and using a smaller needle for the purl stitches. Turns out I would have been safe using the same needle. Oh well.
I'm also curious to see if the part that was steamed will look any different after being washed. Since cotton has very little memory I'm betting that it won't look different, but I'm still curious enough to perform this little experiment.
Work is going to be jam-packed this week. Will I get this top done before July 1st like I hoped? This is afterall my June stashbuster project. Your guess is as good as mine. I'm really looking forward to wearing this one but I didn't knit a stitch all last week so who knows.
Until then, let me know what you think about the sleeve edge. Too much? Not enough? I thought a little frill would be nice but now I'm not so sure.
hmmm, I say leave the picot until you have it all done and try it on. Wear it for a little while and then decide what you think. I am sure when you wear it you will know for sure if it is right or not
I think that the sleeve edge looks great. It goes nicely with the ribbing at the neck and at the bottom. Loving it!!
I think the picot is a nice touch. A little whimsy.
I like it! I think it's very cute :). I think you should definitely check how it looks on, against your arms, but I have HIGH hopes :).
I wonder if ribbing would be better. I think you should try it and see how it looks on before you decide.
I like the picot, it shows up really well, sometimes you can do one and it just looks like a nobbly edge, this one is pretty.
i think the picot edging looks fantastic. anyway, worse thing that can happen is you just have to frog it back and cast off that little bit. personally i think it looks great though.
I really like the picot, but you'll really be able to tell once you can try it on. Decide after that. I think you'll like it.
Jody - the top looks so great! I like the picot edge (I LOVE picot!!), but I agree with you - not too sure it works. Of course it's hard to tell until you put it on. I am really loving reading all yur progress notes!

hate to be the voice of dissent, but i'm not a fan of the picot edge. i think a little ribbing or maybe a ruffle might be nice. can't wait to see it finished!!
I think you should try it on but it seems a bit much to me with the garter and the picot. Show us an arm shot! :) It may look great.
It's really pretty. I like the Picot edging for something different!
The picot is nice but looks odd with all the strong, textured lines (neckline, raglans) that give the rest of the top so much character.

I do like the picots, but I'm not crazy about the garters. I like your raglan so much that now I'm changing my own top to a raglan (it was originally going to be a boatneck).
Wow, you are getting close. I love how it's looking--especially the two rows of garter and the picot BO on the sleeves. It's a simple detail, but a very nice touch.
I love the picot edge, it definitely doesn't look too large when you show the full sweater shot. Keep it!
