Socks That ?

| | Comments (14)

Alright, I'm fessing up. I know I'm in the minority here, but...I don't like my Socks That Rock. I wish I did. I wanted to like it. But the mediumweight -- it's just too heavy for me. The label says 8 stitches per inch, but I don't see how that's possible. At least, not if you want a sock that can't stand up on its own.

I like my socks at 8 or 9 spi, and in my opinion, it's more of a 6 to 7 spi yarn. I'm not the only one either.

So, after sitting in my stash for 6 months, I'm giving up, and selling my STR stash.

I feel the same way!

I'd like to buy the bronze.
I live in Canada, by the way.

Wow - only 1 left already! I'd love to take that rhodonite. The colors really shine!

I've only ever knit with the STR lightweight. I love it, but I can't imagine knitting socks with anything heavier.

Word on the socks that rock, although those semisolids aren't such a bad bunch. Not that Koigu (my one true socky love) is much thinner, though.

I've been dreaming about STR. One day I will succumb. I've been wondering about lightweight vs. medium weight vs. heavy weight, so thanks for the mini-review.

Christy said:

well, that was easy.

There's too much yarn in the work to knit with yarn that doesn't bring you joy. Good for you!

Christy said:

That was "in the world"-- not "in the work."

not the hugest mediumweight fan either - love the lightweight though!

woosh! all of it is gone, hehehe

Well, I have to say WOOHOO!! I have about six hanks of the medium weight STR and I felt HORRIBLE saying it because I felt in the minority, I just didn't like it. I wanted to like it, I TRIED to like it, I even begged the knitting Gods to "let me see the light" so to speak. In the end, I hated how thick it was and there was no changing my mind:( I prefer my socks to NOT "stand alone" if ya know what I mean. I knit a really nice pattern with it, tried them on and hated them:( They would be ok for house socks only in the winter and fall but I could never wear my sneakers or loafers with them. I could also possibly wear them with snow boots but that is it.
